How it works
The day count is the exact number of midnights between the two dates, computed from UTC timestamps so daylight-saving changes can't shift it:
The years–months–days breakdown is calendar-aware, not just days ÷ 365. It counts full years first, then full months, then leftover days — borrowing the real length of each month (including leap-year February) when the day-of-month doesn't line up. Weeks are simply days ÷ 7.
Frequently asked questions
Does the day count include the end date?
This calculator counts the days between the two dates, not including the start date, so January 1 to January 2 is 1 day. That is the standard most date calculators use.
How are the years and months in the breakdown counted?
Calendar-aware: full years first, then full months, then leftover days, borrowing actual month lengths as needed, including leap-year February. The total days always match the exact day count.
Why does another calculator give a different number?
Usually it is an off-by-one difference: some tools count both endpoints. Also check time zones, this tool treats each date as a whole calendar day, which avoids daylight-saving quirks.
